TRGPro Will Run Apps from Compact Flash
TRG announced today at PC Expo that all new TRGPro handhelds will run applications directly from Compact Flash memory. The new feature - AutoCF™ - can be downloaded on TRGPro handheld computers beginning July 1, 2000. At the same time, the TRGPro will also come standard with Palm's latest operating system, Palm OS 3.5.
"We're giving our customers non-volatile storage of large-volume programs and data on Compact Flash that is accessed seamlessly with Palm OS 3.5," said Mike Franklin, president and CEO of TRG Products. "This creates even greater speed, ease of use and efficiency for our TRGpro users. We're excited to deliver these latest innovations to our customers."

trgpro
only shortage is trgpro is:
1. tooooo ugly....palm 3 retired outer shell
2. no color, screen resolution is first geration which can make you get new glasses
3. battery is worst, can't use rechargable, got need a coat with lot of pockets for batterys if go on trip
4. improve on memory, what you need those memory for, run win 95?
5. for 20 bucks difference with palm vx, I'd rather get palm vx, my ex-palm v even had almost 1 mb empty most of the time, I only use it for reading and organizer.
seem pda's ability is getting closer to laptop everyday, bigger memory, color screen, wireless access online, audio and video are catching on, soon you can run winamp and win media player.
to be or not to be...save the best for last???not!
RE: Yess ! Will they release a new device too ?
I think that u r not big fan of the Palmies.
U don't know for what is CF slot ? Not only
for memory ! At the end of year Bluetooth
will be released - all what TRG will need
is just CF card. Easy that ? And I don't
like accu batteries - I can't recharge on
the trip. But AAA batteries you can buy anywhere.
I'd like to have IIIc display + TRG mainboard design and CF + Vx case ;) Impossible...

"Retired?" Perhaps you'd better take another look at Palm's lineup. I, for one, actually happen to *like* the case.
> 2. no color, screen resolution is first geration which can make you get new glasses
"Geration?" Does this have anything to "gyration," or is it some type of gastrointestinal disorder you seem to be suffering from?
16-color grayscale is enough for me until they release a color device. I personally would rather take functionality over a snazzy screen.
> 3. battery is worst, can't use rechargable, got need a coat with lot of pockets for batterys if go on trip
I personally keep NiMH rechargables in my TRGPro. I save my very much "got needed" pockets for peripherals.

Obviously, you have no concept of the memory allocation system in Palm devices. Only a small fraction of that memory is used for dynamic heap allocation; the rest is used for semi-permanent storage. Please note that Palm now offers three units with 8 MB RAM, several months after TRG introduced their 8 MB device.

Are we debating Palm vs. Palm now? The Vx has a rechargable battery, a sleek titanium case, and a slightly different (still greyscale) display. It doesn't, however, have the enhanced audio system, a CompactFlash type I/II slot, included apps for managing CF as well as the flash ROM, and a faster and better built unit overall. TRG isn't marketing this towards the general consumer. They're marketing it towards industrial/commercial specialized applications, where you would need a CF slot and the better audio. Some of us just pick up on a good thing when we see one. ;)

The Palm is not a mini-PC. It's a mobile computing device; designed to assist you in a variety of day-to-day tasks. It's a PC counterpart, not a PC competetor. I sincerely doubt that Winamp and Media Player will br seen in PalmOS versions anytime soon. The Palm wasn't designed as a multimedia system. Even in the newer CE devices, multimedia capability is extremely limited. If you want an mp3 player, buy a Lyra or a Rio.

I'm not even sure what you mean by that. The bottom line is: this isn't an ad for the TRGPro. It's a news clip pertaining to the TRGPro (one announced a while after PalmStation, at that). Noone asked you to buy one, nor did they ask you to comment on a field you are obviously *so* well versed in. I, for one, am anxiously awaiting both the upgrade and the AutoCF release, and don't appreciate your half-witted and ignorant comments on something you obviously know little about.
I apologize to the rest of the world for this - I don't usually reply to trolls; this morning I just felt like venting some steam.
